Nestlé:3rd Nesquik Underwater Festival draws record participation

500 children aged between 6 and 12 years participated in the third edition of the Nesquik Underwater Festival organised by Nestlé Malta at the Malta National Aquarium on Saturday 30th May. The Festival provided an opportunity for Nesquik Club members to learn more about marine environment conservation and sea life.

For the third consecutive year, Nestlé Malta transformed an outdoor area at the Malta National Aquarium into a purpose-built Nesquik village to house the Nesquik Marine Festival. All participating children were also given free, guided access to the Malta National Aquarium as part of the event.

The educational workshops included presentations by Shark Lab and Prof. Alan Deidun. Shark Lab is a non-profit voluntary organisation dedicated to research, education and raising greater awareness about all Sharks, Rays, Skates and Chimaeras around Malta and the Mediterranean. Prof Deidun provided presentations on the national marine parks around Malta and Gozo as well as practical information on jellyfish and how to treat jellyfish bites.

In addition, Nestlé Malta handed out an informative and educational booklet to each child. The 16-page booklet consists of information about corals, coral reefs and their families, complete with tips about preserving reefs and ways how to protect these environments. The booklet also contains educational games sections and puzzles related to marine life to help children understand the importance of protecting the environment.

The Nesquik annual educational events, now in their fifth year, form part of the Nestlé corporate ethos to provide children with healthy, safe and engaging opportunities to learn about their environment and healthy lifestyles.

Commenting about the fifth Nesquik annual event, Ms. Melania Calleja Pellicano, Nestlé Malta Group Product Manager said: “The cycle of life is such that today’s children will be tomorrow’s leaders and parents. The Nesquik events are designed to contribute towards a more responsible generation and children are our primary audience to instil positive educational messages in them about caring for our planet from an early age. Environmental conservation and education are important values that we seek to impart to Nesquik Club members during the various events held throughout the year.”
