The main Baci recipe is unchanged since 1922 - we will always use the same eight carefully chosen quality ingredients, crafted with love in Italy.
Today, the cocoa sourced to produce every Baci is Rainforest Alliance certified and part of the Nestlé Cocoa Plan. This is chocolate made with love for people and the planet. It is how we spread joy all over the world, not just with the unwrapping of our famous foil, but by supporting farming communities.

The story of a legend
1877
A creative legend enters the world
Luisa Spagnoli was born to a local family in Perugia. In an era when female entrepreneurs were almost unheard of, she created two successful businesses: a clothing company, and the Perugina chocolate factory.
1922
Luisa creates the famous recipe
After carefully kneading hazelnut grains, Luisa Spagnoli adds a whole hazelnut then covers her creation with dark chocolate. She calls it 'Cazzoto' as the shape resembles a punch… soon to become a kiss.
1924
Baci is born
Luisa changes the name to Baci and commissions a new look. The silver wrapping with blue writing and love note is the work of Federico Seneca, Perugina's Art Director. His inspiration? Hayez's painting, 'Il Bacio'.
1927
A huge success
In just five years, the Perugina factory creates one hundred million Baci chocolates.
1939
From Perugia to New York
Baci Perugina becomes an Italian star in the United States of America, when Perugina opens on New York's prestigious Fifth Avenue.
1968
Seeing stars
The elegant silver Baci Perugina wrapper is enriched with blue stars - already an integral part of the love note since 1940.
1981
Baci Perugina's Tube
Alongside the classic Baci Perugina boxes, a new tube pack makes for the perfect gift.
2003
The world's biggest Baci
Our pastry team spends 1,000 hours making a Baci measuring 2.15m high, 7.26m wide and weighing 5,980kg - and enters the Guinness Book of Records.

Dressed in white
The world discovers a new flavor of Baci, coated in pure white chocolate.
2014
Baci Milk Chocolate
The classic inner core of hazelnut grains, cocoa, and a whole, crunchy hazelnut. But this time covered with velvety milk chocolate.

For lovers of dark chocolate, we created 70% dark chocolate Baci, with a double coating for moments of pure and intense pleasure.

A new look
